Curling

I don’t want you to go, I used to say,
when it was still another way to say I love you.

Now, we say nothing. An uncomfortable silence
thick with words we dare not speak permeates the
bedroom. I curl up on your side of the bed, the place
where I will sleep for god knows how many nights, as I
whisper silent I miss you’s into the fibers of
your pillowcase.

And I wonder, how many miles lie between here and happiness.
